The Feud of Taylor Swift and Kanye West: What Really Happened and Where Do They Stand Now?

We all know that feuds with celebrities are often fleeting moments that pass within a few weeks, but then the Kanye West vs Taylor Swift beef comes to mind, and you soon realise that this has been going on for years, lets look through the timeline of events.

September 13 2009: Where this drama all started. Swift won the ‘Best Female Video’ for “You Belong with me” before West climbed the stairs to the stage and interrupted her acceptance speech, giving the infamous speech that we know today:

“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time”

The camera then panning to a shocked and stunned Beyonce in the crowd, before shrugging and disappearing back to his seat. For most people, this is the moment that people remember the most, and is perhaps one of the most recognised moments of the 2009 music scene.

A day later, West addresses the incident and says he wants to apologise to her in person, blaming it on ‘sincerity and alcohol’. Swift also confirms on the 15th that he did apologise, and she accepted it.

Everything is quiet and sweet for the best part of six years, until in 2013 when Kanye tells the New York Times that he takes back the apology, saying he felt peer pressured and didn’t regret invading the stage.

For the 2015 VMA’s, Taylor presents MTV’s Video Vanguard Award to Kanye and gives a heartfelt speech to him for how he is such a creative force in music, fashion, and well, life. She jokes about the 2009 incident and mocks that she's really happy for him, will let him finish, and that he had one of the greatest careers of all time.

Come 2016, Kanye debuts “Famous” - and everything goes to shit all over again. The infamous “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous” line came in, with the additional incredibly NSFW video that featured a nude super faked model of her sleeping next to Kanye sent fans of both artists into oblivion.

Taylor and her team hit out against the song and video, claiming that Taylor was hurt over the song and video, and that she didn’t know that any of this was going to be released. This is where Kim Kardashian comes into the mix, to defend her then husband and commend that he did have permission from Taylor to use the lyric. She leaks the initial recording of the phone call to her Snapchat, where Swift can be heard supporting the release of the song and helping alter and permit the lyrics about her.

We also got the infamous ‘what would happen if you just called Taylor up?’ meme from this time, where Kris Jenner tells her daughter to squash the beef with a simple phone call. But obviously, that wouldn’t work.

Following this, Taylor entered her ‘Reputation’ era and is seen performing alongside emblems of snakes, hitting out at Kim and Kanye, and she even had a song dedicated to Kanye called ‘This is why we can't have nice things’, where he calls him a backstabber and overall gets out her own anger with him.

The constant back and forth from either side eventually quietens down for what we all can hope is the rest of their careers, but by looking at the past timeline, lets maybe give it a couple more years to see if anything else crops up!
